Red, White and Peach Kiku
A one of a kind jacket sewn from a vintage Japanese silk kimono. The fabric has a traditional design of 'kiku,' or chrysanthemum flowers. It is 'meisen' silk, a kind of ikat. The fabric is loosely woven, printed with the design, then unwoven and finally rewoven so that the images have a blurred edge. When open, the collar and facings have a deep purple and cream colored print of classic Japanese flower designs. The jacket can be worn with the top button open or closed. 6 metal buttons line the front. Pockets are in the side seams. The jacket is fully lined with silk charmeuse.
Reminiscent of the classic car coat shape this flattering jacket is a loose, semi-A shape. The garment measures 47 inches bust, 50 inches hips, length at center back 28 1/2 inches. [Approximate industry size 14-16.]

All pieces are hand made one at a time in my Portland, Oregon studio. Most fabrics are vintage Japanese silks. These very special fabrics were woven, stenciled, tie-dyed and painted by Japanese artisans. Many were still in the bolt on their way to become kimonos. The fabric in this jacket had been sewn into a kimono but was no longer wearable. I removed the hand stitching, washed and prepared the fabric for its new life. Each piece I make is unique, most are one of a kind. I ship USPS priority at the beginning of the week.
