Shibori Red Shawl Collar Coat

An over-size cocoon shaped coat with a wide shawl collar in a beautiful rich red woven in an over lapping fabrics design. The collar base is an amazing shibori dyed kimono silk. Shibori is a kind of tie-dye. Sections of the silk are tied off so that when the fabric is dyed the tied areas resist the dye. On top of this I appliquéd squares of another shibori, this one with smaller areas tied creating smaller circles of dye. The under collar is another shibori in oranges. This same fabric is used for the facing. There are pockets in the front. Fully lined with silk charmeuse. A separate jacket was worn for the photos.

Garment measures 50 inches bust, 48 inches hips, length at center back 37 inches. Oversize, one size fits most.

All pieces are hand made one at a time in my Portland, Oregon studio. Fabrics are vintage Japanese silks. The very special fabric used in this trench coat was woven, stenciled and painted by Japanese artisans and finally sewn into a kimono. I removed the hand stitching, washed and prepared the fabric and sewed it into my trench coat design.

Each piece I make is unique, most are one of a kind. I ship USPS priority at the beginning of the week.
