Ocean Stream Hitoe

A loose fitting, straight sided blouse, I call this design 'hitoe,' which means unlined. This versatile top can be worn on its own, like a blouse, or over something else like a light weight jacket. It is sewn from a beautiful, black kimono silk woven with designs of ocean waves. It has a fabric belt that can be tied at the waist for shape. The sleeves can be rolled up. 5 vintage glassl buttons line the front.

All pieces are hand made one at a time in my Portland, Oregon studio. The fabrics are vintage Japanese silks. The very special painted stripe fabric used in this 'hitoe' was hand painted by Japanese artisans and sewn into a kimono. I removed the hand stitching, washed, prepared the fabric and sewed it into this top. Although the collar and sleeve fabrics had been intended to be sewn into kimonos, the bolts had been in storage.

Each piece I make is unique, most are one of a kind. I ship USPS priority at the beginning of the week.
